Jennifer Hudson shuts the red carpet down at the Women Doing Good Awards in New York City. Her simple, fiery red draped mini is so sexy, and she’s got just the right amount of bling. Even though the Oscar winner hasn’t entirely given up on her scary-tall- platform heels, this time they don’t seem so heavy. The Woman looking good, indeed..
Since so many of us look to the Oscars for a yearly guide of glamor, I wanted to help you find your style by giving you a Designers perspective on why these looks worked so well. The stars were out tonight for the 83rd Annual Academy Awards and I must say, some of the dresses were simply amazing. Although I was a bit disappointed that I didn’t see many of the seasons newest colors that I was anxiously anticipating, there were some dresses that achieved awards all on their own. These are my picks for this glamorous night of fashion.
Jennifer Lawrence was one of my favorites. I will definitely be designing my own version of her dress this year for Jackie’s Boutique Couture Collection. Her red gown with a low scooped bustline and fitted silhouette by Calvin Klein is simply elegant. Casual golden waves and dramatic eyes finishes off the look. This is simple yet such a classically elegant Oscar look. You can wear a dress like this for a black tie or cocktail event if you shorten the hemline. Just make sure that you wear the right foundation garments of you may turn out more than intend to.
Another look that I adore is Nancy O’Dell in brilliant Aqua. Thank you for celebrating one of Springs new colors. It’s well known that celebrities are frightful of being fashion forward and tend to go with the traditional black, white and red hues but I am so excited by this color. Don’t you just love blonds in blues? Plus the design is extravagant! The dress drapes across the bodice with a different take on a one shoulder style. Nancy wears her hair in a loose up-do showing off her shoulders. She has really modernize the look showing us that balance can be achieved for evening with dropped earrings on a bare shoulder. Lovely pose as well.
Hillary Swank in Gucci. Need I say more? Hillary never disappoints me. She has really established her own personal style and this amazing gown is beyond glamorous. Not only does she embody what a confident woman should be, she carries herself with a calm elegant grace that she has matured into over the years. I’m obsessed with the shadow effect of feathers on her train. Hillary has such a beautiful body for strapless fitted silhouettes and her coloring suits a soft pastel palette. This is not the first grey dress that she has worn well but when you find a look that works, stick with it.
Jennifer Hudson was showing off her new svelt figure in Red Versace. Not the usual Versace either. Although the wrapping silhouette looks Versace, the full train is much like Oscar or Gucci. As you can see, this gown had everything a woman wants in a jaw dropping Oscar look from a hot shot of color to stunning design. The dress works because it’s not to heavy on top and the ruched a-symmetrical waistline gives her curves a feminine sexy presence. Even though there is a lot going on with this dress, it’s well balanced because it’s not top heavy. One rule to live by when you wear a dress with this much presence, don’t wear your hair down. It’s all about looking statuesque and elegant.
I have so many looks that I intend on reviewing for you over the next few days but I have to show you this dress. It’s a favorite of mine and is already inspiring me to design more lace for my collection. Mila Kunis from Black Swan has another stunning fashion night in this romantic lilac lace gown with gorgeous sweetheart bustline by Elie Saab. (Elie Saab is a self-trained Lebanese fashion designer who launched his Beirut based fashion label when he was 18 years old. He now has fashion workshops in Lebanon, Paris and Milan.) The bodice is framed with folds of fabric and lace. The length floats to the floor and moves when she walk with the illusion of leg. Blonds or brunettes will wear this color well and it’s perfect for Mila’s coloring.
